In connection with the annual KIN FESTIVAL, Sydhavn Teater presents a double bill with works by Claire Vivenne Sobottke and Alma Toaspern, who explore the nature of the body in their own way. In a desolate wilderness and a sonic universe of 1,000 pop hits, they try to make sense of the chaos. The two works will open this year's KIN FESTIVAL.

Velvet

Velvet is a sensuous study of the history of the feminine body.

Claire Vivianne Sobottke's solo work unfolds in a constructed miniature garden - of soil, plants and stone - and examines loneliness and sexuality. Sobottke constructs a series of portraits of creatures that move in these landscapes, challenging norms of ways of seeing and thinking the world. Velvet moves between the poetic and the irrational to both construct and deconstruct embodiments and identities—including the idea of the feminine and the feminine.

_Plex

IN __plex choreographer Alma Toaspern dives into the sensuous and emotional intensity of pop culture. Inspired by musician John Oswald's visionary album Plexure (1993) — a collage of over 1,000 pop hits — the work translates fragments of sound into movement, rhythm and presence. Through the Body is examined how we navigate in an era marked by constant media noise, algorithmic remix culture and fleeting impulses.

Powerful, humorous and overwhelming, each movement seeks to create meaning amid the overstimulation -- a flash of clarity in chaos.

toaspern|moeller, founded in 2020 by dancer/choreographer Alma Toaspern and singer/composer Mathias Monrad Møller, explores the intersection of movement and sound. In the pair’s creation processes music and dance are not created separately, but form the necessary conditions for each other. Recent works include The Combat, a combination of a ‘musicle‘ by Monrad Møller with an operatic scene by Claudio Monteverdi, as well as ERNST, a solo for Alma Toaspern, in which the dancer inhabits the role of the show monkey Ernst, who is celebrating his 80th birthday, in a festive yet clinical (electronic) environment. In their most recent duet LIEBE, Toaspern and Moeller explore the many states of being in love - from illusory harmony to desperate dissonance, while singing and dancing through a poetic stage set by artist Christian Friedländer. Their work is currently co-produced by LOFFT (GER), Theater Basel (CH) and Theater Freiburg (GER) and funded a.o. by Bikubenfonden, Augustinusfonden, Knud Højgaards Fond, Statens Kunstfonds, the German National Art Foundation Fonds Darstellende Künste and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, Germany.
